A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING BRADLEY POPE FOR RECEIVING THE MAKING MISSISSIPPI MOVE AWARD.
WHEREAS, Bradley Pope of Clinton, Mississippi, a long-time volunteer with the Clinton Community Christian Corp., has received the Making Mississippi Move Award for his efforts in organizing the "Operation Clinton" project; and
WHEREAS, "Operation Clinton" was begun in 1995 to renovate homes in Clinton for some of the city's needy residents; and
WHEREAS, the effort resulted in about 25 homes being renovated in two years, including projects like adding an indoor bathroom, converting a home from gas to electric for a woman on oxygen, foundation work, installing water heaters, re-plumbing and painting; and
WHEREAS, Bradley Pope received the Making Mississippi Move Award, which recognizes individuals and municipalities for innovative programs that improve the quality of life, from the Mississippi Municipal Association during a meeting in Jackson; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Rosemary Aultman nominated Pope for the award because of the difference he made in the lives of those he touched and ultimately in the City of Clinton; and
WHEREAS, volunteers from churches, scout troops, schools, businesses, Mississippi College and local retirees worked on the homes, and the City of Clinton provided inspections, trash and rubbish removal, utility location, and assistance with water and sewer needs; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize its citizens for their dedicated service to their community:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Bradley Pope for receiving the Making Mississippi Move Award.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Bradley Pope and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
